Fire Aspect
Sets the target on fire when hit, dealing fire damage over time.
Overview
Fire Aspect is a rare melee enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Fire Aspect ignites whatever you hit in melee, adding a stream of burning damage after the swing instead of all at once, and cooking any food drops off mobs you kill.
Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — Sets target on fire for 4 seconds (3 fire damage / 1.5 hearts) — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 2 (II) on your sword.
Effects Per Level
Max Level & Effect Scaling
Fire Aspect tops out at level 2, shown as II on the sword, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.
There are only two levels. Fire Aspect I burns the target for 4 seconds and Fire Aspect II doubles that to 8 seconds, which works out to roughly 3 and 7 points of fire damage respectively if the victim stays alight the whole time. The burn does not stack — re-hitting simply refreshes the timer.
Compatible Items
Compatibility & Conflicts
Fire Aspect fits exactly one item — the sword — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated sword enchantment through and through.
Fire Aspect has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a sword alongside every other enchantment that sword accepts without having to give anything up.
How to Obtain
How to Get It
Fire Aspect can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of II on a sword generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 10. Players who would rather not gamble for Fire Aspect can hunt the book down through loot chest and villager trading and apply it at an anvil.
Its selection weight of 2 makes Fire Aspect a rare roll: it surfaces only now and then on a sword, so you may need to re-roll several times or simply trade a villager for the book.
Tips & Best Combinations
Great for PvE and food farming, mixed for PvP. The over-time burn pads your damage and auto-cooks meat, but it can backfire by killing mobs before Looting-boosted drops register, and in PvP a clever opponent can extinguish it in water. Pair it with Sharpness rather than treating it as your main damage source.
For the strongest setup, pair Fire Aspect with Sharpness, Looting, Unbreaking and Mending — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.
Worth remembering: mobs killed by fire drop cooked meat instead of raw. Fire damage does not stack with multiple hits. Does not work on Nether mobs that are immune to fire.
