Sweeping Edge
Increases the damage of sweep attacks (Java Edition only).
Overview
Sweeping Edge is a rare melee enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Sweeping Edge strengthens the sword's sweep attack — the arc of splash damage you deal to nearby mobs when you swing with a full attack-charge meter on the ground.
Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — Sweep attack does 50% of hit damage — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 3 (III) on your sword.
Sweeping Edge is exclusive to Java Edition; Bedrock has no sweep-attack mechanic, so the enchantment simply is not available there.
Effects Per Level
Max Level & Effect Scaling
Sweeping Edge tops out at level 3, shown as III on the sword, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.
It is a Java-only enchantment with three levels that raise the sweep's share of your main hit: 50% at level I, 67% at level II and 75% at level III. Without it a sweep deals just 1 damage, so even one level transforms it from a tickle into a genuine crowd-clearing tool.
Compatible Items
Compatibility & Conflicts
Sweeping Edge fits exactly one item — the sword — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated sword enchantment through and through.
Sweeping Edge has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a sword alongside every other enchantment that sword accepts without having to give anything up.
How to Obtain
How to Get It
Sweeping Edge can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of III on a sword generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 9. If the table is not cooperating, the Sweeping Edge book also comes from loot chest and villager trading, ready to apply on an anvil.
Its selection weight of 2 makes Sweeping Edge a rare roll: it surfaces only now and then on a sword, so you may need to re-roll several times or simply trade a villager for the book.
Tips & Best Combinations
Worth slotting on a Java survival sword if you fight groups — raids, zombie sieges, spider nests — because it lets one swing hurt everything in front of you. On Bedrock the enchantment does not exist, and even on Java it is low priority compared with Sharpness, Looting and your durability pair.
For the strongest setup, pair Sweeping Edge with Sharpness, Looting, Fire Aspect and Unbreaking — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.
One detail to keep in mind: java Edition only. The sweep attack damage formula is: 1 + Attack_Damage * (level / (level + 1)). Without this enchantment, sweep attacks deal 1 damage.
