Feather Falling

Reduces fall damage and ender pearl teleportation damage.

Overview

Feather Falling is an uncommon armor enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Feather Falling softens landings, sharply reducing the damage you take from falling and from related effects like ender-pearl teleport impacts.

Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — 12% fall damage reduction — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 4 (IV) on your boots.

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Feather Falling tops out at level 4, shown as IV on the boots, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.

Each of its four levels cuts 12% of fall damage, reaching 48% on boots at level IV. Stacked with Protection it can push total fall-damage reduction up toward the 80% enchantment cap, turning what would be a fatal drop into a survivable one.

Compatible Items

Compatibility & Conflicts

Feather Falling fits exactly one item — the boots — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated boots enchantment through and through.

Feather Falling has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a boots alongside every other enchantment that boots accepts without having to give anything up.

How to Get It

Feather Falling can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of IV on a boots generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 6. When the enchanting table refuses to offer Feather Falling, the same enchantment is available as a book from loot chest and villager trading for anvil application.

Its selection weight of 5 makes Feather Falling an uncommon roll: it appears with middling frequency when enchanting a boots — common enough to plan around, but not guaranteed on any given roll.

Tips & Best Combinations

One of the best boot enchantments in the game and a near-automatic pick. Mountains, ravines, the End, and elytra crashes all become far safer with Feather Falling IV. Combined with Protection it makes most accidental falls a non-event.

For the strongest setup, pair Feather Falling with Protection, Depth Strider, Unbreaking and Mending — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.

A practical note: reduces fall damage by 12% per level. At Feather Falling IV, fall damage is reduced by 48%. Stacks with Protection for up to 80% total fall damage reduction.

Feather Falling FAQ

What is the maximum level of Feather Falling in Minecraft?
Feather Falling reaches a maximum of level 4 (IV) on a boots, which is the highest you can get legitimately in 1.21 without commands or external tools.
How do you get Feather Falling in survival?
The easiest source of Feather Falling is the enchanting table — a bookshelf-maxed table can offer level IV from about experience level 6. Failing that, the book version of Feather Falling can be found through loot chest and villager trading and joined to your boots on an anvil.
Which items can Feather Falling go on?
Just the boots — Feather Falling is exclusive to it in vanilla 1.21, and you will not be able to apply the enchantment to anything else.
Does Feather Falling reduce ender pearl damage?
Yes — the small amount of damage you take when teleporting with an ender pearl is treated as fall damage, so Feather Falling reduces it. The same goes for landings after a Riptide launch.
Can Feather Falling stop all fall damage?
Not by itself — Feather Falling IV cuts 48%. Stacked with Protection it approaches the 80% reduction cap, but a high enough fall can still hurt, so it lessens rather than removes the danger.
