Fire Protection
Reduces fire damage taken and decreases burn time.
Overview
Fire Protection is an uncommon armor enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Fire Protection specialises against heat, cutting fire and lava damage and also shortening how long you stay alight once you catch fire.
Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — 8% fire damage reduction, -15% burn time — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 4 (IV) on your leggings.
Effects Per Level
Max Level & Effect Scaling
Fire Protection tops out at level 4, shown as IV on the leggings, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.
Four levels, each removing 8% of fire damage, reaching 32% on a single piece at level IV. On top of the damage cut, each level trims your burning time by about 15%, so a full set lets you escape flames and lava far more quickly than bare armor.

These enchantments cannot be combined with Fire Protection on the same item.
Compatibility & Conflicts
Fire Protection can be placed on helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, giving you a handful of choices for where it does the most good depending on how you play.
Fire Protection cannot share an item with Protection, Blast Protection and Projectile Protection. All of these sit in the same mutually-exclusive group as Fire Protection, so an item can wear only one of them at once and you choose which playstyle to commit to.
How to Obtain
How to Get It
Fire Protection can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of IV on a leggings generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 8. If the table is not cooperating, the Fire Protection book also comes from loot chest and villager trading, ready to apply on an anvil.
Its selection weight of 5 makes Fire Protection an uncommon roll: it appears with middling frequency when enchanting a leggings — common enough to plan around, but not guaranteed on any given roll.
Tips & Best Combinations
A specialist worth running on a dedicated Nether or lava-mining set, where fire is the main danger. Because it conflicts with the other protection types, most players keep it off their general armor and reserve it for trips where they expect to be swimming past lava or fighting blazes.
For the strongest setup, pair Fire Protection with Unbreaking, Mending and Feather Falling — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.
One detail to keep in mind: each level reduces fire damage by 8%. Also reduces burn time by 15% per level across all armor pieces. Useful for Nether exploration.
