Swift Sneak III (from ancient cities) makes sneaking significantly faster. This is the only armor piece that can use Swift Sneak, making it a priority for leggings.

Swift Sneak and what else leggings take
Swift Sneak is the reason to care about leggings. Sneaking normally moves you at 30% of walking speed, and each level adds another 15%, so Swift Sneak III sneaks at 75% of walking speed. It speeds up crawling as well, which is exactly what you want while you creep past a warden.
No table, villager or fishing rod will give it to you. Swift Sneak books only turn up in ancient city chests, at any level from I to III, and two books of the level below merge into Swift Sneak III for 12 levels.
Everything else on leggings is what any armor piece takes: one of the four protections, Thorns from a book, Unbreaking and Mending. The chestplate page works out how the protections add up.
Enchanting Cost Notes
Anvil Costs: Each time you combine items on an anvil, the prior work penalty increases. Plan your enchantment order to minimize total XP cost.
Order Matters: Combine the most expensive enchantments first, then add cheaper ones. This keeps anvil costs lower overall.
XP Limit: Anvil operations are capped at 39 levels in survival mode. If the cost exceeds this, you need to restructure your combination order.
