Curse of Binding

Curse

Prevents the item from being removed from an armor slot once equipped (except by dying or breaking).

Overview

Curse of Binding is a very rare general-purpose enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Curse of Binding locks a piece of armor onto you once it is equipped, preventing you from taking it off until the item breaks or you die.

There is only one level to it, so nothing needs upgrading — the instant it goes on your helmet you have the whole effect (Armor cannot be removed from its slot once equipped).

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Curse of Binding exists at a single level only, so there is no scaling curve to climb — applying it to your helmet hands you the complete effect in one step, with no Curse of Binding II to chase.

There is one level and no upgrade path. The curse covers everything you can put in an armor slot — helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots and an elytra, plus carved pumpkins or mob heads worn on the head — and, as with every curse, a grindstone will not take it back off.

Compatibility & Conflicts

Curse of Binding can be placed on helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots and elytra, giving you a handful of choices for where it does the most good depending on how you play.

Curse of Binding has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto an item alongside every other enchantment that item accepts without having to give anything up.

How to Get It

As a curse, Curse of Binding is never offered by an enchanting table. It turns up only as loot chest, villager trading and fishing, and once it is on your helmet it cannot be ground off.

Tips & Best Combinations

Generally a trap to be avoided, since it can saddle you with weak or harmful headgear you cannot remove. Its rare positive use is in custom maps and pranks, or to force-wear a cosmetic. In normal survival, check armor for it before equipping unfamiliar pieces.

One detail to keep in mind: a negative curse that a grindstone cannot strip away. Bound armor stays locked to its slot until the wearer dies or the piece breaks, and the curse can even be applied to carved pumpkins and mob heads worn as headgear.

Curse of Binding FAQ

What is the maximum level of Curse of Binding in Minecraft?
Curse of Binding is a single-level enchantment — there is no Curse of Binding II in vanilla, so once it is on your helmet you already have everything it offers.
How do you get Curse of Binding in survival?
Being a curse, Curse of Binding never comes from an enchanting table — you only encounter it as loot chest, villager trading and fishing, and no grindstone can strip it off your helmet afterward.
How do I take off a Curse of Binding item?
You can't remove it normally — it comes off only when the item breaks or when you die. That is why you should be careful equipping unknown armor that might carry the curse.
Does Curse of Binding work on a carved pumpkin?
Yes — it can be applied to carved pumpkins and mob heads as well as ordinary armor, locking the cosmetic onto your head until it is destroyed or you die.
