Multishot

Shoots 3 arrows or firework rockets at the cost of one, with a slight spread.

Overview

Multishot is a rare ranged enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Multishot makes a crossbow fire three projectiles in a slight fan from a single loaded arrow or firework, turning one trigger pull into a shotgun-like spread.

There is only one level to it, so nothing needs upgrading — the instant it goes on your crossbow you have the whole effect (Fires 3 projectiles instead of 1 (only 1 can be picked up)).

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Multishot exists at a single level only, so there is no scaling curve to climb — applying it to your crossbow hands you the complete effect in one step, with no Multishot II to chase.

One level only. All three projectiles come from one piece of ammo, but only the centre arrow can be picked back up, and firing this way wears the crossbow three times as fast as a normal shot.

Incompatible With

These enchantments cannot be combined with Multishot on the same item.

Compatibility & Conflicts

Multishot fits exactly one item — the crossbow — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated crossbow enchantment through and through.

Multishot cannot share a crossbow with Piercing. Because of that single conflict you have to pick either Multishot or Piercing for any given crossbow — never both.

How to Get It

Multishot can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of I on a crossbow generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 14. When the enchanting table refuses to offer Multishot, the same enchantment is available as a book from loot chest and villager trading for anvil application.

Its selection weight of 2 makes Multishot a rare roll: it surfaces only now and then on a crossbow, so you may need to re-roll several times or simply trade a villager for the book.

Tips & Best Combinations

Excellent against clusters of enemies and a blast for firework spam, but it conflicts with Piercing, so you must choose a crossbow's personality. For raids and crowd control Multishot wins; for single hard targets behind cover, Piercing is better. Keep two crossbows if you can afford them.

For the strongest setup, pair Multishot with Quick Charge, Unbreaking and Mending — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.

A practical note: only one of the three arrows can be picked up. Causes 3x durability loss per shot. Effective against groups of mobs.

Multishot FAQ

What is the maximum level of Multishot in Minecraft?
Multishot is a single-level enchantment — there is no Multishot II in vanilla, so once it is on your crossbow you already have everything it offers.
How do you get Multishot in survival?
The easiest source of Multishot is the enchanting table — a bookshelf-maxed table can offer level I from about experience level 14. Failing that, the book version of Multishot can be found through loot chest and villager trading and joined to your crossbow on an anvil.
Which items can Multishot go on?
Just the crossbow — Multishot is exclusive to it in vanilla 1.21, and you will not be able to apply the enchantment to anything else.
Can I recover all three Multishot arrows?
No — only one of the three can be picked up after firing. The other two vanish on landing, so Multishot effectively spends extra ammo for its spread unless you are shooting fireworks.
Why can't I have both Multishot and Piercing?
They are incompatible in vanilla. They represent opposite crossbow builds — wide spread versus deep penetration — so you commit to one per crossbow.
