Punch

Increases the knockback of arrows shot from a bow.

Overview

Punch is a rare ranged enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Punch is the ranged cousin of Knockback, adding launch force to your arrows so a hit shoves the target backward as well as hurting it.

Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — +3 blocks of knockback per arrow — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 2 (II) on your bow.

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Punch tops out at level 2, shown as II on the bow, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.

Two levels, each adding about three blocks of knockback, so Punch II can push a struck mob roughly six blocks away. It changes none of the arrow's damage — only how far the impact throws whatever it lands on.

Compatible Items

Compatibility & Conflicts

Punch fits exactly one item — the bow — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated bow enchantment through and through.

Punch has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a bow alongside every other enchantment that bow accepts without having to give anything up.

How to Get It

Punch can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of II on a bow generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 6. If the table is not cooperating, the Punch book also comes from loot chest and villager trading, ready to apply on an anvil.

Its selection weight of 2 makes Punch a rare roll: it surfaces only now and then on a bow, so you may need to re-roll several times or simply trade a villager for the book.

Tips & Best Combinations

A useful comfort pick rather than a core one. Punch keeps chargers, skeletons and players at arm's length and can knock enemies off ledges, but in many fights the extra distance just makes it harder to land your next shot. Most players prioritise Power, Flame and Infinity first.

For the strongest setup, pair Punch with Power, Flame and Infinity.

One detail to keep in mind: the ranged equivalent of Knockback. Useful for keeping mobs at distance.

Punch FAQ

What is the maximum level of Punch in Minecraft?
Punch reaches a maximum of level 2 (II) on a bow, which is the highest you can get legitimately in 1.21 without commands or external tools.
How do you get Punch in survival?
The easiest source of Punch is the enchanting table — a bookshelf-maxed table can offer level II from about experience level 6. Otherwise a Punch book turns up via loot chest and villager trading, which you then combine onto the bow using an anvil.
Which items can Punch go on?
Just the bow — Punch is exclusive to it in vanilla 1.21, and you will not be able to apply the enchantment to anything else.
What is Punch good for?
Keeping fast or melee-focused enemies away. A Punch bow can shove a charging mob back, interrupt its approach, or even knock it into lava or off a cliff.
Does Punch add arrow damage?
No. It only adds knockback. If you want more raw arrow damage, Power is the enchantment you are looking for.
