Quick Charge

Decreases the loading time of crossbows.

Overview

Quick Charge is an uncommon ranged enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Quick Charge speeds up crossbow reloading, shaving time off the draw so you can fire again sooner after each shot.

Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — Loading time reduced by 0.25 seconds (1.0s total) — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 3 (III) on your crossbow.

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Quick Charge tops out at level 3, shown as III on the crossbow, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.

Each of its three levels removes a quarter-second from the reload. A normal crossbow takes 1.25 seconds to load; Quick Charge III cuts that to about 0.5 seconds, which is actually faster than fully drawing a bow.

Compatible Items

Compatibility & Conflicts

Quick Charge fits exactly one item — the crossbow — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated crossbow enchantment through and through.

Quick Charge has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a crossbow alongside every other enchantment that crossbow accepts without having to give anything up.

How to Get It

Quick Charge can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of III on a crossbow generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 12. If the table is not cooperating, the Quick Charge book also comes from loot chest and villager trading, ready to apply on an anvil.

Its selection weight of 5 makes Quick Charge an uncommon roll: it appears with middling frequency when enchanting a crossbow — common enough to plan around, but not guaranteed on any given roll.

Tips & Best Combinations

Almost always worth it on a combat crossbow. The crossbow's main weakness against a bow is its slow reload, and Quick Charge III closes that gap, letting you keep pressure on with rapid follow-up shots. Pair it with whichever of Piercing or Multishot suits your build.

For the strongest setup, pair Quick Charge with Piercing, Multishot, Unbreaking and Mending — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.

One detail to keep in mind: reduces crossbow loading time by 0.25 seconds per level. At Quick Charge III, the crossbow loads in 0.5 seconds, faster than a bow.

Quick Charge FAQ

What is the maximum level of Quick Charge in Minecraft?
Quick Charge reaches a maximum of level 3 (III) on a crossbow, which is the highest you can get legitimately in 1.21 without commands or external tools.
How do you get Quick Charge in survival?
The easiest source of Quick Charge is the enchanting table — a bookshelf-maxed table can offer level III from about experience level 12. Otherwise a Quick Charge book turns up via loot chest and villager trading, which you then combine onto the crossbow using an anvil.
Which items can Quick Charge go on?
Just the crossbow — Quick Charge is exclusive to it in vanilla 1.21, and you will not be able to apply the enchantment to anything else.
How fast does Quick Charge III make a crossbow?
It drops the reload from 1.25 seconds to roughly 0.5 seconds, which makes a Quick Charge III crossbow fire faster than a player can fully draw and release a bow.
Does Quick Charge affect bows?
No — it only applies to crossbows. Bows have no separate reload step, so the enchantment has nothing to act on there.
