Soul Speed

Treasure

Increases walking speed on soul sand and soul soil.

Overview

Soul Speed is a very rare armor enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Soul Speed makes you move faster across soul sand and soul soil, two blocks that normally slow you to a crawl, turning the Nether's soul-sand valleys into express lanes.

Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — Slightly increased speed on soul blocks — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 3 (III) on your boots.

Max Level & Effect Scaling

Soul Speed tops out at level 3, shown as III on the boots, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.

Its three levels each grant a bigger speed boost on soul blocks. The trade-off is durability — walking on soul blocks with the enchantment has a chance to wear your boots — so it consumes gear in a way most movement enchantments do not.

Compatible Items

Compatibility & Conflicts

Soul Speed fits exactly one item — the boots — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated boots enchantment through and through.

Soul Speed has no exclusivity conflicts at all, so you can layer it onto a boots alongside every other enchantment that boots accepts without having to give anything up.

How to Get It

Soul Speed is a treasure enchantment, which means an enchanting table will never produce it. Your only routes are piglin bartering and bastion remnant loot, after which you combine the book onto your boots with an anvil.

Tips & Best Combinations

A Nether-specific treasure enchantment, obtainable only from piglin bartering or bastion loot, never from a table. It is fantastic for soul-sand valley travel and piglin-bastion runs, but pointless in the Overworld. Unbreaking and Mending are practically required to offset the durability drain.

For the strongest setup, pair Soul Speed with Unbreaking, Mending and Feather Falling — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.

A practical note: treasure enchantment only obtainable through piglin bartering or bastion remnant loot. Cannot be obtained from enchanting tables, fishing, or villager trading. Has a chance to consume durability.

Just the boots — Soul Speed is exclusive to it in vanilla 1.21, and you will not be able to apply the enchantment to anything else.

Only through piglin bartering — giving gold ingots to piglins in the Nether — or by finding it in bastion remnant loot chests. It cannot be obtained from enchanting tables, fishing or villagers.
Why does Soul Speed damage my boots?
By design, moving on soul sand or soul soil with the enchantment has a chance to consume boot durability. That is the cost of the speed boost, which is why it is almost always paired with Unbreaking and Mending.
