Riptide
Launches the player in the direction they are facing when thrown while in water or rain.
Overview
Riptide is a rare ranged enchantment in Minecraft 1.21. Riptide turns the trident into a movement tool: throwing it while you are in water or rain launches you in the direction you are aiming instead of throwing the trident itself.
Its opening level already delivers a noticeable boost — Launches player a short distance — and it climbs from there to a maximum of level 3 (III) on your trident.
Effects Per Level
Max Level & Effect Scaling
Riptide tops out at level 3, shown as III on the trident, and the gap between the levels is where the enchantment's character really lives.
Three levels control launch distance, each one flinging you further. You can only trigger it while wet — in water, standing in rain, or in a thunderstorm — which makes it weather-dependent but spectacular for travel.

These enchantments cannot be combined with Riptide on the same item.
Compatibility & Conflicts
Riptide fits exactly one item — the trident — and nothing else will accept it, so it is a dedicated trident enchantment through and through.
Riptide cannot share a trident with Loyalty and Channeling. All of these sit in the same mutually-exclusive group as Riptide, so a trident can wear only one of them at once and you choose which playstyle to commit to.
How to Obtain
How to Get It
Riptide can be rolled directly at an enchanting table, where reaching its top level of III on a trident generally wants a fully bookshelf-powered table at roughly level 5. When the enchanting table refuses to offer Riptide, the same enchantment is available as a book from loot chest and villager trading for anvil application.
Its selection weight of 2 makes Riptide a rare roll: it surfaces only now and then on a trident, so you may need to re-roll several times or simply trade a villager for the book.
Tips & Best Combinations
A blast for mobility and a strong surprise melee opener, but it rules out both Loyalty and Channeling, so a Riptide trident can never be a returning thrown weapon. Combine it with an elytra and rain for some of the fastest travel in the game; just remember it does nothing on a clear, dry day.
For the strongest setup, pair Riptide with Impaling, Unbreaking and Mending — the durability enchantments in particular keep the item alive long enough to make the investment worthwhile.
A practical note: only works when the player is in water or rain. The trident is not thrown; instead, the player is launched. Can be combined with elytra for fast travel.
